Monkey Hear- Monkey Say
Hear-Say
[O_O] “Hearsay” is a nice one because it’s almost too literal — it’s exactly what it looks like: “hear” + “say,” something you’ve heard [someone] say, as opposed to something you witnessed yourself.
It emerged in Middle English/early Modern English (by the 16th century) as a compound, originally often written as two words or hyphenated — “hear-say.” The construction mirrors a pattern English does elsewhere with verb-pairs describing a chain of transmission (think “say-so,” which works the same way: the mere saying of it, unverified).
Legally, “hearsay” got its technical teeth later, once English courts started codifying rules of evidence — the word shifted from plain description (“what people are saying”) to a formal category (an out-of-court statement offered to prove the truth of the matter asserted) sometime around the 17th–18th centuries as adversarial trial procedure developed.
^-.-^ My Eldest tox-sis called. I’ve been trying to remember what year it was, based on the phone in memory. So this is 2004-2008-or there about. Roughly a decade after the BIG DEAL production of Enforcer tox-sis (found in Letters of 1995-1996.>>Mutually disowned)
Understand, Enforcer and Elder are SISTERS in the calling and visiting each other regularly kind of way. Eldest kept Enforcer’s children while Enforcer traveled. Their children went to the same summer camps. They took vacations together. They would both visit my father and step mother during the shared vacations at the same time with their families. My Eldest would include me on the tail end before her family went back to their home state. I was open to it. My kids got to meet their cousins a couple of times while young.
In that little block of time (2004-2008) my Eldest and I would talk quarterly maybe…??
So, Eldest called. She’s angry at Enforcer.
Get This ….during one of Enforcer’s visits,
while Eldest sister was at her studio (away from the house)
Enforcer, snooped the Eldest sister’s contact book.
No …not just snooped,
MASSIVE BOUNDARY BREACH
Enforcer called every one >>> every one of Eldest sister’s friends.
Enforcer wanted to host an “INTERVENTION.”
The reasoning
Well, Enforcer just KNEW that Eldest had a “mental disorder.”
But Eldest didn’t think so. (Probably, why she left her guest at home to spend alone time at the studio.) Meanwhile, Enforcer called old college friends and professors to invite to this Intervention.
Eldest gets a call from a friend (who knew the studio number.) Eldest has to rush home and stop this ACTION and try to fix things with her friends.
The Enforcer KNOWS that the Elder has a mental disorder,
because… Enforcer has been diagnosed (recently/back then) and Eldest has “all the same issues.“
The silence was uncomfortably long for her.
Me -in my head- ‘But you KNEW it was a scorpion.’ I mean what part of the target-ing of our brother did you miss? Oh, that’s right you were all feminist bonding and doing “mighty blow to patriarchy” thing.
The silence was uncomfortably long for her.
“Can you believe it?”
Me -in my head- 12 years in the same room.
Enforcer’s Target since birth.
16 years under the same roof(s.)
Her intrusions into my adult life.
I’m confused why no one ELSE saw it coming.
The silence was uncomfortably long for her.
“Are you still there? Can you believe it?”
I may have scoffed (accidentally.)
Unsatisfied with the lack of “there-there’s and nows-now’s.”
My eldest sister decided to call someone else.
>>>>It was Never a Fair Fight<<<<
What made her IMAGINE she would never be Target-ed?
