I haven’t been in an MMO since 2012.
Then I found Dungeon Alchemist and its Discord.
It’s a tiny, happy little gaming niche, but behind the streams and the maps, its the people sharing what they’ve made.
These people are ambitious.
They want to get good.
And when somebody does something extraordinary, the reaction isn’t necessarily, I want to beat them.
It’s more like:
Oh. You can do that?
And then:
Okay. I want to get that good.
That’s emulation.
You don’t have to pass the person ahead of you. Their achievement gives you a new idea of what “good” can be. Their success becomes a handhold on the next ledge.
And if you spend your time surrounded by people who are always pulling you down, you may never discover what it feels like to belong to a group that pulls you up.
That’s what I’ve found with my DamFam.
People who challenge themselves. People who share what they learn. People who look at somebody else’s work and think, I want to see if I can do that.
And then somebody else looks at yours and thinks the same thing.
The quest isn’t to become the person at the top.
The quest is to keep striving toward the people who are showing you what is possible.
And sometimes, if you keep doing that long enough, something funny happens.
You become the person somebody else is trying to keep up with.
You rise to legendary.
Not because you defeated anyone.
Because you kept climbing.
And somewhere along the way, you left handholds behind you.
Much Love to the trailblazers and dev team!
